[...] Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and… 31 07 2007 Today I finished Will Richardson’s book Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms. I have always appreciated Will’s viewpoints on his blog, and I like the straightforward, easy to understand approach he presents in his book. Having used many of these tools in my classroom for over a year now, I was familiar with much of what Will shares, but I had many I should have tried that moments!!! Now, I am in a new position (district level educational technology specialist) with a new audience (educators) and the book proved valuable in giving me ideas and ways that I can share these tools with teachers.
[...] All this stuff is accessible through my blog so I guess my project is going to be communicating in web 2.0 ways through my blog. It has been really nice to be a part of this class and have time and assignments that force me (you didn’t have to twist my arm too hard) to explore tools that I’ve heard of or worked with a little but haven’t had a full understanding of until now. The reading has been great and helped me think of new ways for my kids to work with each other and with others across the world. [...]

[...] A blog needn’t be limited to a single author - it can mix different kinds of voices, including fellow students, teachers and mentors, or subject specialists. Edu-blogging pioneer Will Richardson (author of a book entitled ‘Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms’) used the blog software Manila to enable his english literature students to publish a readers guide to the book The Secret Life of Bees. Richardson asked the book’s author, Sue Monk Kidd, if she would participate by answering questions and commenting on what the students had written - to which she agreed. The result was a truly democratic learning space. [...]

[...] I haven’t actually read this myself (yet) but judging by the responses of those who have, it’s exactly what I imagined it would be: a straight-down-the-line and accessible demonstration of how ‘new media’ tools can have an amazingly positive impact in the classroom. More information as to what the book contains over at Will Richardson’s blog. [...]

My company is seriously spending energy, time and money on delivering qualifications via blended learning for adults in Africa: Kenya, Ghana, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe to name a few. We are establishing/collaborating with learning centres to provide internet access to learners and are continuously looking for innovative new ways to add value to the e-learning experience. Won't you please consider providing us with a copy of your book which seems to be packed with just the kind of info we need?
