Its like a football game at the stadium, there will always be those who sit in the stands and want to play but just don’t know how, those who know they cannot play and are content to just sit and watch. Those who have their favorite player(s) and simply identify with that player and feel like they are playing themselves. Those who don’t know anything about the game and don’t even watch or just do not care to watch. Those who feel it is a young persons game and sit in the stands, eat their hotdog and sip their drink and don’t care who wins--- they just like watching the game. And of course, those who play the game and excel at it.

Will - My only fear is the abstract is evolving faster than the concrete, creating a new divide. Either people catching on to networked centered learning, or they take their place in the trail of the masses, never truly able to catch up.

[...] The title comes from Mark Pesce’s presentation in September on Mob Rules, which I found via Will Richardson. That means that everyone in the edtech field has already heard about it. Anyway, this is an absolutely fascinating read, even for someone already immersed in all this Web 2.0 stuff.
[...] 18, 2007 · No Comments I came across this post from Weblogg-ed today, and spurred some thinking I’ve been doingabout “networks”. There has been a lot of punditry these days where various folks tout the rise of networks and the power of technologies which connect people. The intuitive thought is that the Internet, mobile communications, and applications like Facebook etc etc etc create networks of people in ways that we’ve never seen before. I think this point is true, but not as provocative as some would make it seem. Here are some of my quick thoughts on social networks: [...]

I think we will be likened to 'digital cavemen' a mere ten years from now.

I must be a sucker too then!
Will, firstly hello from Downunder, and secondly thankyou for this last piece. While it may be scary at the same time it is also exciting to read this way of thinking.I just can't wait to share it further & have decided my New Year's Resolution will be to step over the dinasaurs ... clutching their faded marker pens in one hand and a dog-eared textbook in the other...and make the preparations for my classes just as I would love to have my grandchildren taught in the future.
My 12 yr old daughter is already in the process of sidestepping (she created a blog for her History assignemnt - first one, but she LOVED it...) and I know she'll be on my sidelines cheering!
Then there is this idea is buzzing in my head that I would love my new classes to walk into class in the new school year (in January), log on to their laptops, and find a 3D multicoloured tag "cloud" revolving on their dekstops..my comment? "Class this is what we'll be doing this term!!
Hey; It's a start!! Now...how to create that cloud...any helpers??

What a powerful speaker! Some of the info he gives us is scary but is right on. Schools do definitely need to change the way things are being taught (and learned)or they will be left in the dark ages of technology!
