Heyyy!
I'm writing a story for my school about the Lonely Girl myspace. If you could respond to my e-mail that would be great! I think her videos are entertaining and a wonderful way to express yourself.

I'm using this story a bit differently, but still for the study of literacy. My Developmental English writing and reading classes will be reading about this and other digital literacy issues that have opposing viewpoints and then formulating their own stance on the issues through the blog's comments. It's still in its infancy of development, but it is giving purpose to the odd bit of news that peaks the interest of the nation...

Hi Will-
Just saw a the lonely girl on Jay Leno. I think I am staying up too late. Anyway, as you know by now she/this is a fake...but still an amazing lesson can be learned about making videos and documentaries. These fake videos made me think of ways to use the technology in the classroom.

I love how popular this thing has become. Many people in many different publications have been comparing the series of videos to The Blair Witch Project and I think that it is a good comparison.

These videos are so effective because they are representative of any typical 15-year-old, but at the same time, they have a very mysterious and enticing storyline behind them that makes you wonder what the entire truth is.

I don't quite know what the value of these videos are, other than pure entertainment, but perhaps it does say something profound to how quickly and how dramatically media and entertainment are changing.

[...] Will’s The True Story of LonelyGirl15 is the kind of post which is slowly driving me insane. OK, so LonelyGirl15 is ostensibly a post-YouTube riff on the old camgirl genre, which dates back to JenniCam, which apparently started in ‘96. There’s even a disseration (and forthcoming book) on camgirls by Terry Senft. [...]

Hi Will,
Thanks to this post (and your book that I got last year at a NYSCATE conference) I made my second post to my blog finally! I think the Lonelygirl15 videos are great! Of course as many other YouTubers point out that it does look professionally done. But it is so well with in the reach of my students.
This post inspired me to start developing a "media" class for a High School elective.
