Chris Harris pointed to Google’s new Notebook app which at first blush is a bit like OneNote (without the inking) for the Web. In fact, it might even be better simply because of the share-ability and easy publishing. It’s oh-so-easy to snip stuff and to start pages of topical notes. (See Chris’s example.) As he says,
Google Notebook, you see, lets me capture text blocks from a webpage and create an electronic notebook that truly places the emphasis on being a NOTESbook. I love that I can go back and annotate entries by either editing the entry itself or by adding an additional note below the entry. Notebook also includes a link back to the source document. Notes can also be arranged into sections.
Of course it has AJAX drag and drop goodness for reordering stuff, you can add section headings, print the darn thing, and even search all of the public notebooks there are out there in Googleland.
Now, if only each notebook could be made collaborative AND had an RSS feed. Now that would be really cool.

Sadly, this is another one that will likely be blocked at the schools. First, it requires a download and install, so that rules it out right away. But, let’s suppose they COULD install it. Now picture your basic 16 yr old at home, flipping through some adult sites, gathering images and storing them in his notebook. He then gets to school and has ready access to them.
In an age where lawyers write school policy, this is one that will SURELY be blocked. Too bad, too, because it IS a nice little tool.
except that a 16 year old can already store the same stuff in his email. So this isn’t any worse than that.
Right, but it’s so much better! I’ve already started three notebooks, saved about 25 snips, tagged them, and now I have a searchable space that is much more efficient for a student than any old paper notebook (which, btw, will be laying in the recycling bin at the end of the school year anyway.) We should promoting this idea of digital notebook regardless of the tool we use.
been using clipmarks for almost a year now. fair to say they are the current innovators in this space. if u like notebook, you will really like clipmarks. i am addicted…
