WNYC is doing a week of Radio Shows on the theme of "Think Global".

As an Independent School educator who finds my environment sometimes stifling because of the over concern with the "Canon" I can't imagine what it is like to work within a school district that controls everything from a top down perspective.

What is the answer? Charter Schools? Smaller Schools? It's obviously one school at a time in a community context. Does anyone have models of public education systems changing?

I find that in America, people aren't looking around at the world and we're obviously going to be bitten soon -- if not already as you can observe countries beginning to move their cash reserves to the Euro.

What do American's need to wake up?

Definitely not more Television.
