A very interesting discussion at Kairosnews from which I need to spend some time culling ideas. Much of what is being said is apt for any “philosophy” behind using weblogs.
Also, of course, is Terry’s fine continuing essay on his own reasons: Part 1 and Part 2 are already up.

Just a quick note on first impressions: I find the white bacground and the blue header very appealing. Sense of lightness. Was that intentional? Thinking ahead to usability you or any of us might get together a few guinea pigs to see how newbies handle the “complexity” of the page. In other words, is everything that we want to be visible,visible. Just a stray thought prompted by the evidence that you are getting close to a theme here.
Terry…the best news is that according to David, a lot of the configurations can be templat-ized. For instance, I could include departments already set up with the e-z edit buttons in each area of the navigation bar. And I can preset template info too. I swear, if I can do that (I’m waiting to get concrete absolute definite confirmation from him) I’m more than halfway to where I want to be with this! Thanks for the feedback.
